Growing up as a shy child, I found refuge in my neighborhood library and books. Every Saturday, my mom, sister, and I whisked off to the library to pile our arms up with books. I probably read the entire children’s section at least twice. But each weekend, I couldn’t wait to see what I’d find next.
We would spend hours there – Mom loading up on novels and chatting with the staff, my sister hunting her own treasures, and me hunkered down in the children’s section exploring new places in pictures and words. The toughest part was trimming down my pile to a manageable stack. When I couldn’t decide which ones to put back, which was often, they’d help me carry the load to the car. I’d get home and read my way into adventures and faraway lands.
I shared this with my own boys when I had children and the library, to me, will always be a most magical place.
I hope you, too, will find a home in stories.
Happy Reading and Listening! Cherie
